Franz Maczek is my great great grandfather, born in 1869 in Austria.

Below is what I have found so far about him:

Originally an officer in the 23. Feldkanonenregiment he was prior to the war attached to the newly created field artillery arm of the k.k. Landwehr and his last peacetime assignment in 1914 had been as the Ammunition Park Cadre commander of Landwehr Field Howitzer Battalion 21 (Landwehr-Feldhaubitz-Division Nr. 21). His numerous decorations as listed in the 1918 k.u.k. Army list are as follows:

Knight's Cross of the Order of Leopold with War Decoration and Swords
Order of the Iron Crown 3rd Class with War Decoration and Swords
Military Merit Cross 3rd Class with War Decoration and Swords
Military Merit Cross
Silver Miltary Merit Medal with Swords (twice)
Bronze Miltary Merit Medal
Officers' Long Service Decoration 3rd Class
The Crown Jubilee Medal of 1898
The Crown Jubilee Cross of 1908

Promotions:

Oberleutnant: 1 May 1896
Hauptmann: 1 Nov 1905
Major: 9 Feb 1915
Oberstleutnant: 1 Jan 1917

I don't know when he was married, or when he passed away.  I also dont have the exact day that he was enlsited into the military.  He was also enobled (if that is a word), possibly due to one of his many awards.
